History of women participation in sports.

  • The Number of women participation in sports was really very limited before 1970-1972 in fact, there was a time when women were not allowed to even watch the Olympic games.
  • But the number of women participation in sports at international level has increased for the last 3-4 decades.
  • We can see women participation in Olympics, world cups, Asian games, commonwealth games and many other competitions.but still women participation in sports is very less in comparison to men, especially in our country India.

Some of the reasons for limited women participation in sports:

1. Lack Of Lawmaking:

  • In 1972, a law passed in the USA to prevent secernment and to provide equal opportunities to women to participate in sports at all level.
  • As a result, there was a huge resolution of women participation in sports.but here in India there is a lack of such legislation for participation is the reason for everything,
  • If the sufficient budget is not provided by the government, how can athletes and especially female athletes get the opportunity to grow in their field?

2. No Coverage Of Sports:

  • Now, this is the major reasons, there is no surprise if there is less number of viewers in sports competitions of women compare to male athletes viewers.
  • I want to ask you guys how many of watch cricket match of women’s team, how many of you watch women’s hockey match, football match, boxing match or any other sport on tv, lesser the viewers and there will be fewer sponsors so definitely they also paid less compared to male athletes.

3. Less Number Of  Women Coaches:

  • Less number of women coaches is also one of the reasons of less participation if the number of women coaches is enhanced there will be an increase in women’s participation in sports and games.
  • Especially in India, there are very few women coaches, as a matter of fact, most of the females feel shy and hesitation with the male coaches.

4. Attitude Of Society Towards Women’s Sports Participations:

  • Guys, society plays a vital role in the development of anybody, not just women if the attitude of society is negative towards you.
  • It’s hard for you to grow or develop in that society, in India point of society and its attitude is not proper toward women’s participation in sports,
  • The views of a society cannot be changed spontaneously, however, time is changing at a faster rate and we hope a better future for female athletes in India.

5. Lack Of Personal Safety:

Personal safety on the streets,o n public transport or anywhere, is also important as well as the particular problem for women who want to participate in sports, because of the bullying and abuse they do not feel safe thus their parents refuse them to take part in sports.
